Hell has officially frozen over today.

It is amazing, I can't remember the last time a democrat actually admitted that by giving businesses less tax burden that it will help those businesses expand and grow!

Governor Jim Doyle today announced $7.5 million in sales tax exemptions and tax credits for businesses to expand broadband access - providing cell phone and high speed Internet service for 350,000 Wisconsin citizens. The tax credits will help nine businesses invest more than $80 million to expand broadband access - benefiting 261 communities in 63 counties across the state. Governor Doyle announced the tax credits as part of the broad effort to grow the economy in Northern Wisconsin.

Now could it be such a huge leap in logic for them to realize that lowering the taxes of all the people in the state could also have the same affect on us?

Doesn't seem likely....

Countdown #37 3/5

A digression again from last week. Mary Marvel sees Zatanna's pad. Trickster and Piper get caught by Poison Ivy. Oracle does a diagnosis on Karate Kid. Jason Tood and his group has a coameo as well as Holly and Harley. The only real good part of the book, Jimmy as Mr. Action wants to join the Teen Titans so when Robin puts him to the test, nothing happens. The problem with this book isn't so much what is in there, more of what isn't in there. It's the price of a regular comic, but you lose 2-3 pages to the backup (this week the hostory of Poison Ivy) and there are so many characters that no one gets any spotlight. Also almost everything happening in here is resolved in another book. I should just give this up, but I see potential here that I can't yet.

Justice League of America #12 3/5

Again another disappointment. Sometimes I don't get the comic industry. Brad Meltzer, who can be a great writer, starts the One Year Later run on JLA but only for 12 issues. So basically we get 7 issues of the team coming back together and why (mediocre), 3 cross-over issues (actually the best of the run), one issue where 2 members are buried alive (Boring and with a bad fill in artist), and this one. So really no momentum going into the new writer. I give this issue a lower enjoymeny rating not really because on its own it was horrible, just that it's the last of Meltzer's run and it feels like it. It wasn't really a story so much as little vignette's of each hero in the League. Just didn't do it for me. I hope the new writer kicks the stories into high gear from this point out.

Brave and the Bold #6 4/5

I have really liked the Brave and the Bold up to this point. This issue seemed a little rushed, but otherwise still an enjoyable end. I don;t know if I really buy how they resolve the conflicts though with the Zeta Beam mixed with Green Latern ring stuff, but it's a comic so you can let a little slide by.

Booster Gold #1 5/5

Easily the best comic I have read in a long time. Other than Booster Gold in Justice League Unlimited cartoon, I really didn't know much about him. In Identity Crisis he gave up Superheroing for awhile until Ted Kord, his friend, died. That story kicked off the Infinite Crisis event where Booster goes back "home" to the future and comes back and helps save the day. From there he becomes a main character in 52 and fakes being a jerk and fakes his own death so he can help save the day as Supernova with no recognition.

That leads into the story where Booster starts to rebuild his reputation and wants to join the Justice League. Rip Hunter tells Booster though that time is still broken and Booster is the only one equipped to deal with it. Some bad guy is going through time and trying to erase heroes and it seems some villians as well before they become powerful. The problem is that Booster needs to remain being a joke of a superhero in everyone's eyes or else the villian will do it to him as well. So again, Booster needs to be the greatest hero no one will ever know.

Booster accepts and disses the Justice League, saves a boy from dying and tells theboy to say Superman saved him, and rescues the first victim, his great great grandmother. Oh and the Supernova costume is stolen and last seen on a mysterious person talking to Sinestro when Sinestro was still a Green Lantern!

Countdown #38 4/5

Much better this week. We had Mary Marvel trying to stop the last remaining Deep Six member before he got killed. Oracle and Calculator going head to head virtually. Piper and Trickster "proving" their innocence to Batwoman and Renee with a puppet show. Robin proving to Jimmy Olsen that he isn't a superhero. And the monitors finally getting around to what is so dangerous about world jumpers. This series could still be better, and I have a feeling with the rotating artists and writers that certain weeks are going to be better than others depending on which team does them. But it also could mean they are finally starting to find their voice and the quality will continue to improve.

Batman #667 4/5

I like Grant Morrison and I like Batman so those two together is a good thing. Batman and Robin head to an island to meet with the Batmen of all Nations. Basically a silver age campy thing that Morrison turns deadly as a mysterious villian starts killing them off one by one. I liked the issues writing, but the artist changed and not for the better or else it would have been closer to a 5.

This weekly series has started off slow. It has gotten a little better, but still seems like there is more potential than substance. We are 25% of the way through so I think there should have been more here. This book needs to start kicking it in high gear or people are gonna drop it. But I am liking the Search for Ray Palmer so I got....

All-New Atom #14 5/5

I really don't get the draw of the shrinking, and I don't really get the whole nano/palmerverse thing, but damn was this issue a great read. I have been thumbing through these because of Gail Simone and already on the fence about getting it but I am hooked on her at least. I started buying comics again when I read that Jason Todd may be coming back. For some reason that drew me in instead of pissing me off. So since he is in the search, I am along for the ride.

Nightwing #135 3.5/5

I almost gave it a 4, but this issue wasn't as good as previous ones. I like what Wolfman is doing over all though. Dick Grayson has been punked the last few years and Marv is finally getting him back as a respectable hero. This issue however was a step back in art (there is actually a spot on a building that says "insert Wayne Tower here", and the issue is a little confusing. What I did like is the retcon of Dick Grayson growing out of his role of Robin versus the whole Batman "firing" him as Robin.

Justice Society of America #8 5/5

This JSA is all about second generation characters that pretty much I have never heard of or read about. Johns makes me like them and want more. When they relaunched this book I was going to give it a shot and I am glad I did. Almost every week this is a home run for me. This week has Jesse Chambers in it who is the dughter of the original Liberty Belle and Johnny Quick of WW2 Golden Era time. This is basically a recap of her and her parents along with Professer Zoom taunting Damage about what he did in Ifinite Crisis. Kingdom Come Superman is coming next issue which should get interesting!

Seems like August is when I feel like blogging the most. Last year around this time I came back and started posting again, and the previous year I started the blog.

Well not alot of posting in the last year, but I did still have a busy year.

On the work side of things, I continued working at the location of my old job until November, then finally got to move premanently to the new building. Also I had a very bust 2007 so far with two major networking upgrade projects that are thankfully now finished because.....

On the home side of things it also has been a jammed packed year. We did had more work done on the house. We replaced the patio door downstairs as well as a few windows, replaced the moldy wall, put laminate flooring in the spare bedroom and repainted it because....

We have a baby on the way anytime now. We have a beautiful room ready for when the new addition to our family comes. It has been a long 9 months (longer for my wife for sure) but I think we are ready for this new direction in our lives. Now how our cats will feel about losing our sole focus will be another thing!

Lastly on the entertainment front, this last year brought a change from Charter cable to DirectTV. While the move at times brought alot of issues, once we resolved everything we have been very happy with it. Having a DVR in HD is always wonderful, and having one in both rooms allows us to have less conflicts in recording. New TV additons to my watching schedule include Heroes on NBC, Eureka on SciFi, and Psych and Burn Notice on USA (Gotta love Bruce Campbell in anything!)

Here's hoping for another great year!

I'd Tap That Aquafina

So with the big article the other day about Aquafina, the uproar about it being tapwater is crazy. I mean serious with titles like "Aquafina admits the truth about it’s water" and "Aquafina: Unearths Its Source" it makes it sound like they were lying about their source of water. Which, um , they haven't.

I happen to have a bottle right here on my desk, that I haven't thrown out in "disgust" yet. It has the words "Purified Drinking Water" right on the front. How hard is that to figure out? I guess it could be misleading because of the logo that has a mountain there, meaning that it comes from mountain springs right? I guess since it shows the sun on the logo then they are misleading as they collect and bottle water at night too?

Anyways what it all comes down to is the move to ban bottled water, nothing else. There are certain groups that are pushing for the move to get rid of bottled water, and are pushing the bottle water is tap water angle as much as possible.

Truth is the tap water is probably fine for you to drink in most cases. Truth also is that purified water takes out many of the things that tap water has as well such as large amounts of chlorine or arsenic.

I never though of Aquafina as some magical water from the fountain of youth. For me it is the convenience of having cold water that available right away. It is about the ability to take that water anywhere with me. It also gives me a piece of mind that I am not drinking Madison's water.

So I have been watching Batman Beyond on DVD the last couple of weeks. Batman Beyond takes place about 50 years after the typical Batman time, about how long it has been since I last posted. It was always I show I liked, but it suffered from whatever TV station that showed it would randomly air the show and I never caught it consistently, and usually when I did it was one of the handful I had already seen. But with only a couple shows left to watch, I am amazed how good it has been. What also has amazed me is the list of stars that have done voices for it. PATNA, India (AP) -- Police charged a suspect after a bus driver was robbed of his fares, then realized the suspect was a 3-month old baby.

The boy, Parveen Kumar, had been listed along with his father on an initial charge sheet after the bus driver was robbed, police in the eastern Indian state of Bihar said Friday.

The baby had been charged with robbery, extortion and banditry, said local superintendent of police Rattan Sajai.

Though the robbery in the remote village of Muzzafarpur occurred Sept. 19, the fact that a prime suspect was an infant only came to light recently when police launched their investigation, Sanjai said.

Police blamed the bus driver, saying he reported the baby as a conspirator because of a personal grudge he had with the father.

The charges against the boy have since been dropped, Sanjai said.

Springboob and I were talking this morning about various things on the ride into work this morning and it drifted towards Dancing with the Stars and one of the dancers, Joey Lawrence. And after saying his name I went "Woah!", a catch phrase from his show on Blossom. Springboob said he was talking with his wife about it and did the same thing.

Later in the morning The Donald found out why there was an on/off switch on the paper puncher thing (for a middle hole), and said to me, "Now you know", which I immediately said back to him "And knowing is half the battle!", from the end of every G.I. Joe cartoon episode.

So that made me start to think about other things associated with people or shows that I or other people may still say about them. Another example is that I still call Mark Wahlberg "Marky Mark".

Anyone else have any?

Farewell Robguy!

Robguy quit yesterday a few weeks earlier than he would have lost his job. He is leaving for Australia on Nov 7th. We started our state jobs approximately at the same time (his started a week before mine, though I had worked as a contractor for 2 and a half years before that), and his last day was my 7 year mark of working as a state employee.

So here's to Robguy! You will be missed!

After I wrote the above post,I was informed that he is a security threat to his old place of work.

Robguy is no longer authorized to have access to the building or any controlled resources. They are not to allow Robguy into the building when the doors are controlled, or otherwise permit him access to anything until his final status is determined. If anyone sees him in the facility they are to report it to security immediately.

They even had a mock building evacuation just in case he came back. (They claim it was a fire drill, but we know better)

So good riddance and I'll make sure your name is on the "No-Fly" list!

P.S. Want to meet for lunch on taco bar day and see how long it takes for someone to call security? I mean really, Australia is a long ways away from Mexico....get it while you can!

Today at 8:46, my time, the population clock at the Census Bureau rolled over 300 million people in the U.S. Of course that doesn't mean that is when it actually happened, just an estimation. 200 Million hit in 1967 and there was a big deal made out of it. This time around the big 300 is going quietly as to not stir up talk about illegal immigration.

Of course with the number of cars our neighbors have parked in the road around our house, I suspect a good chunk of that 300 million live there.

Weekend at the Con - The Good

Seeing the last post you may have thought it was a bad weekend, but in reality it was a great time. Despite all the problems outside of our control there were great moments all weekend:

The two games we ran went without any cheaters or Dieters and actually we had one player who played two games at Little Wars with Dieter and agreed with our assessment of him. There was also the best run by any Imperial force up to this point on our Saturday game. Also the game is always well received, the sign ups sheets more than filled, and there is a buzz in the air afterwords. LOG did an amazing job and everyone involved should be proud.

We also got to play in a couple real cool games run by Trent. One on Friday night with WWI airplanes, and one Saturday morning with the same rules but in a Star Wars setting.

We had tons of good food and lots of beer. Next door to the Hotel was the Raccoon River Brew Pub. We ate there two days and got a couple of growlers of their Pils and Oktoberfest. Nothing better than great beer! And even more fun was the fact that Chad couldn't remember the name of the jug of beer and kept calling it Rumbler, Grumbler, Rambler, anything but it's actual name.

Most importantly we just had a great time hanging out with each other. The endless amount of picking on each other, mostly towards Seth, cased many laughs! Recalling past glory, both in gaming and in Lodi. And just not letting the negative things of the weekend affect us.

Weekend at the Con - The Bad

This weekend was a trip to Fields of Honor. We were running the Star Wars game from Little Wars. Here are the "Bads" of the weekend.

I had a little bad luck that started the night before we left. My Wife and I went to look at new cell phones but hadn't both made up our minds 100% on the models we liked the most so we decided to put it off. We were driving to get some food when the driver's side rear tire started making a weird noise. I had run over a huge stick and it punctured the tire. After changing into the donut tire it was getting late so we started driving to all the tire places we could find that could change the tire that night. Eventually we found a place and got it changed and got home in time for my wife to leave and make it to work on time.

The morning went off without a hitch and we made past Iowa city and about an hour out of Des Moines when we get the call that the store bus that our Star Wars game was on broke down. Actually their transmission lost overdrive so 3rd gear was the max gear they could use. So a back track to Iowa City to stop at a transmission place was needed. Knowing that we were running the game at 7 and time was running out, LoG (including myself as the groupie) decided that we needed to rent a U-Haul. The gaming store owner wanted to do the same to get his merchandise there to try and make a little money for the weekend so we decided to go into it together. However we got screwed because he wanted to split the cost, despite the fact that our stuff took up less than 20% of the truck.

OK so we now have half the U-Haul (in price at least) but we have a whole gaming store bus to unload and reload into the U-Haul. We did the human chain thing and manage to move everything to the new truck in under an hour. Next came the fitting a thrid person in the back of my car, which it really isn't designed for. But you do what must be done. And of course we had to help unload the U-Haul when we got there because we had to get their stuff out to get our stuff out.

Tied in with all of this is the end of the weekend drama. The reason we drove seperate was because for us four it was a vacation and a time to have fun. Two of the people that came with worked part time for the gaming store and they weren't there to work. One aspect of driving ourselves meant that we could leave when we were ready. Well the owner of the store had a group talk with his staff (not us) on Saturday night and came up with the plan that with our help, he could pack up all of his stuff into the U-Haul quicker, have one of us drive the U-Haul back to Madison and turn it in, plus drop someone back off at the bus, and probably unload the U-Haul as well. Add in that they would have left about 3 hours later than we were planning. Things got kinda tense after we told them that we weren't doing that which caused some more angst, but we all agreed it wasn't going to happen.

So other random bad things:

Hotel Bar closing early, poor bartenders, running out of stock, and over charging us for alcohol above their listed price.

We ate at various places during the weekend and had generally poor service.

Old Chicago had a horrible pizza buffet. I am a picky eater so leave me the pepperoni pizza and I am happy, but even everyone else eating with me was confused by the choices we had out there. There were combinations of stuff I had never even thought of and no one else in the restraurant was eating them either.

And the absolute worst was being in Iowa for a whole weekend!

The De-evolution of a Good Idea

Earlier this year I started a new job....well at least mostly. Even though I ended up at the place I used to work 4 days a week, I still had a new title and a new building to work at the other day. Three other people were hired and lent back to their old jobs as well. We all, with a fifth person as well, had the task to help consolidate the network support back to the new place. So we all pick one day the same that woe would be at the new place and set up a meeting with us 5, techies only so we could get things done.

As time went on our team lead heard about it and sat in taking notes. This worked pretty good as she just sat in there and listened or occasionally asked some question for clarification.

Add a little more time and our customer service rep would sit in.

Soon after our supervisor joins our meeting. The a couple new hires. We get a new team lead and he joins.

Now in the present the meeting is setup and run by our supervisor, with a meeting agenda layed out and a task assigned sheet waiting to be filled up. And our last meeting we had a stack of papers probably 3 inches thick to go over in the meeting which including step-by-step project plan tasks, inventory spreadsheets, and other tedious documents.

Guess it is time to start a new techies only meeting and see if we can make it another 6 months before that gets tainted as well.

So Wisconsin has this nice little law that requires gas companies to inflate the price of gas by 9.18% from the price at the terminal. So that means deals like this from Woodman's had to be taken away. Oh yeah and when this guy tried to help us out by lower prices he got smacked around too.

So after the prsident of Badger Ethanol, a contributer to Gov. Doyle's campaign, has gone public with his want of the minimum markup law to be removed, Doyle says Don't Enforce Law on Ethanol Sales

In the article he says

This law was passed at a time that it was designed to protect the little guy against the bigger people. But it used to apply to every single product. Now it only applies to gasoline."

So why is Doyle only calling for the removal of the Markup only for Ethonal E-85? If it shouldn't apply to gasoline sales it should be across the board, right? Or is it the Petroleum industry hasn't given him enough money yet?

Today is the one year anniversary of this blog. One of the big things at this time last year was my "At-risk Notice" that I received. Happy to report that I was offered a new job in Feb, and then immediately taken off notice. I took the new job, for more money, but ended up back here at my old job 80% and my new one 20%. Supposedly for not too much longer though and I can enjoy my new desk at the new building.

Other than that the last year has lead me to Oklahoma for my Nephew's Wedding, A one year anniversary trip to New York, and some home improvements this spring with a second one to come in the next few weeks. (Thanks to Sami who actually puts all of this stuff on her blog so I can link to it after the fact.)

All in all a pretty good year, even though at this time last year it held alot of questions. Here is to the next year and everything that can happen!

Break in Madison Cold Case

Local investigators may have unraveled a 45-year-old mystery, reported WISC-TV.

The mystery is over what happened to two men who vanished in 1961. News 3 learned that the vehicle the two men were last seen in was found in Lake Waubesa on Friday.The vehicle was discovered by a local man who was out on the lake. It's not known what has been found in the vehicle, which remains under water. Detectives told News 3 they don't believe the missing men are victims of foul play. According to WISC-TV, Carl Stolz, 21 and Ronald Wick, 20, have been missing since a night out in Feb. 1961.Divers have spent years searching the Madison area lakes for traces of the men. Most of the focus has been on Lake Monona.In recent years the case was so perplexing that investigators enlisted the help of a world-renowned psychic, who also failed to yield any clues.But the public may soon know more.

The Sheriff's Department will hold a news conference Tuesday to announce the details in the case

The Next Joker

According to multiple sources reporting to Newsarama, including Warner Bros. itself, the next villain to face Batman in the revived film franchise will be the Joker, and he’ll be played by Heath Ledger, proving many early reports of the actor picking up the role true. Assumedly, the sequel will re-tell the origin of the Joker, although which origin will surely be a topic of speculation.

Batman Begin director Christopher Nolan will return to direct the sequel which will simply be called The Dark Knight. According to earlier reports, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman signed multiple picture contracts and will be returning for The Dark Knight as well as a possible third Bat-movie. What I Was Watching - Season in Review

Monday

How I Met Your Mother
I still thought this was an OK show. With DVR worth spending the 20 minutes. Good enough to watch until....

Two and a Half Men:
This was one of the best finds of the year and is staying for sure on the DVR next year.

Out of Practice:
Buh Bye. Funny at times but don't miss it.

New Adventures of Old Christine:
Basically Elaine as a mother. Funny moments but I doubt it is coming back.

Medium:
I was iffy on this show. I like it, usually enjoy it, but I think it could be better. It will stay on DVR though.

Wednesday

Lost:

Seemed like the show lacked some focus for awhile, but they brought things together well towards the end of the season and I am looking forward to some answers and probably more questions next year.

Invasion:

Another show that is cancelled. The show crawled at the beginning of the season but got really good at about the halfway point. If they had started out that way sooner it might have made it. If the new CW picks it up I will DVR it there.

Thursday

Smallville:
The season kinda wandered towards the end of the season after a strong start. The death of Clark's dad was good though. It has another year at least on the new CW so it stays on DVR.

My Name is Earl:
This and 2.5 Men are my two favorite comedies. I thought that maybe the premise would get old, but I never felt that way. Jaimie Pressly is awesome as Earl's ex wife.

The Office:
Such a low key humor at first made me iffy on it, but it grew on me quickly and is staying ont he DVR for sure.

Friday

Nothing network wise, but Sci Fi channel starts up Sci Fi Fridays again in July for the Stargates (SG1 and Atlantis) and Oct for Battlestar Galactica. I will say this again, Battlestar Galactica is one of the best shows on TV, on any channel. Get the first two seasons from Netflix on DVD or from Blockbuster or wherever, but do it!

Sunday

Desperate Housewives:

Good Show. Probably slipped a bit this season. It will remain on DVR though.

Next year one more show for sure gets added on and that is 24. Been catching up on DVD and I will make sure my DVR catches the next day in Jack's crappy life. Also of course I will still watch Monk and Dead Zone on USA whenever they come back.

Today we got up and went for some breakfast at IHOP. The Geese almost got me there. But they will have to wait for another year to pass for their next shot at me.

I also got to play some Hydro Thunder in the Hotel's game room! Been along time since I played that last.

The ride home consisted of ideas for next year's game that LOG would run, oh and making fun of Dieter of course.

All in all a great weekend and many more stories that will turn into legends for future Little Wars. Seth not having his figs done until the night before, Cole spending the baby's food money, Dieter, a Markgraf wrestling match. Not to mention the pig story and the three fingered handshake. 'Nough said about that.

Little Wars Day 2

Today LOG had a game at 9am so another early morning to get going. This time around the game had a problem, Dieter.

He was muttering often how the game sucked, and whining how his troops got routed scraping their knee. After a talking to though he shut up pretty much much the rest of the game. So now Chad is adding to the beginning of his introduction, "No Cheaters or Dieters". He definately was the tool of the weekend.

After that though we hit the swap some more, had some con food, and some more beers. By dinner time we headed to Hooters for some wings (Grilled cheese with pickle rubbed on top for Seth) and just hung out for the rest of the night.

Little Wars 2006 Day 1

First day of Little Wars started off early so we could get there in time for LOG's (League of Ordinary Gentlemen) first game at 2PM. To the left is Karl, Chad, Tom, Ray, Seth and Cole.

They were running a game from the opening scenes of New Hope. They recreated the Corellian Corvette.
It comes apart in 4 different decks that are run at the same time. The players can send their troops between levels. It was safe to say that everyone had a great time.

After the game was over we did some bargain hunting in the swap shop and vendor area, then heading for dinner at BD's Mongolian Barbeque. We go there every year and it never disappoints. After dinner we headed back to the hotel and enjoyed a warm night drinking cold beer.

One day late in writing this, but yesterday was so crappy that these words echoed in my head all day. With one major stress out item in "both" of my jobs and then waking up to a realization that our bathroom project may be impacted in a negative way I was stressing out some. But as the day wore on one of the major issues at work was resolved and the home issue wasn't as bad as it appeared so things got better.

Now all I have left to stress about is the issue at this half of my job and the craptastic weather.

Ok, as most of you are aware, we are redoing the floors in our home. My wife has posted pictures on our progress. It is safe to say that this is wearing me out. Not used to all that physical labor!

Added to that is the fact I started a new job last week and Tuesdays are early days. I am not really sure why they ask what hours you want to work then schedule recurring weekly meetings before that time.

Today I start my new job...sorta. I am still back here half-time, Mon mornings, Wed and Fri. At my new place of employment I have already had to reschedule a meeting because of conflicts with another and of the 20 hours I will be there this week, I have 12 of those hours scheduled out already and I haven't walked through the door yet.

We heard that about the East Coast storm earlier in the week and thought it funny and ridiculous that in mid Feb you can label a storm like that. Anyways we got a little snow starting last night at about 7PM. Right now it is not yet noon of the next day and here is what our snow looks like now after not having any before last night.

Also our neighbors always has a car parked on the street, even though they have a driveway. So here is what happens when you park on the street during a snow emergency.

The 18th annual Welcon was this weekend, the second one that I have been able to make. This is a weekend of gaming, friends, and food at the host's house.

On Friday I was privileged to play in a Star Wars miniatures battle system game, with and I quote, "No Stinking Plastic Figs". This is always a fun game to be in and this time was no exception. My team played the imperials and I think we killed as many Rebels (read terrorists - how many civilians did they kill in those movies?) as we killed our own troops for losing morale. Grossman is a hard commander to serve under.

On Saturday we resumed a WWII Champions game from 2 years ago. The fun part of Champions for me are the disadvantages. The hero I played is called Major Victory who has an under confidence disadvantage. There were a lot of laughs in that game including....

12/21/2005:

Adventures of Superman #647:
Final showdown between Supes and Ruin AKA professor Hamilton. Now the prof has been a long time ally of Superman but now believes that an uber powerful alien almost impossible to destroy is a danger to all normal humans. Kinda like some other Superman villian. Hmmm any connection the mysterious benefactor Ruin mentions? Could the mysterious benefactor be the person revelead in Infinite Crisis #3?

Infinite Crisis #3:
I segued that pretty well I believe. Anyways there is alot of baggage coming into this issue. I will try and help with some links to information. First there is Multiple Earths and everything that happened in Crisis on Infinite Earths back in 1985 which this is a sequel of sorts to. Then all the lead up to Infinite crisis with the different mini-series and corssovers. Infinite Crisis #1 ended with Superman from Earth 2 having enough of watching Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman bickering with each other in the ruin of the JLA watchtower and breaking out of the pocket paradise dimension to set the world right bringing with him his Lois Lane from E-2, Superboy from Earth-Prime, and Alexander Luthor from Earth-3. Infinite Crisis #2 is mainly about Powergirl and E2 Superman who are really Cousins as Powergirl is really Supergirl from E2. Lois is dying and at the end E2 Superman reveals that he thinks the wrong earth was saved and that he wants the E2 to be the one and only now.

So that leads us up to this issue where Atlantis gets stomped by Spectre, OMACS chase Paradise Island away leaving Wonder Woman Alone and E2 Superman attempts to recruit Batman with no success. At the end two big shocks in this one to match the big ending shocks that has come before(E2 Superman and Co returning and E2 Superman wanting to restructure the universe) and that is that Luthor confronts the other Luthor and you discover that Alexander Luthor is the Society Blue-eyed Luthor. Right after that in a second yet connected shocker Batman finally gets the video off the Justice League's blackbox and sees that it was Superboy that blew up the JLA Watchtower.

Whew! Looks like E2 Superman is the dupe here and not evil though Alexander is a Luthor and you can never trust them no matter what dimension they come from and who knows yet about Superboy.

Justice #3:
This is an out-of-continuity series that comes out every other month which is way too long to wait for this great series. Basically all the villians have had visions of the Earth's destruction that the heroes cannot stop. So now various plots are brewing for who knows what end. In Justice #3 Braniac has Aquaman and is about to experiment on him while Red Tornado is searching for him at the watchtower while Martian Manhunter is looking for him in the ocean. MM is looking in the ocean so his vulnerability to fire cannot be exploited but alas Garilla Grodd uses his mind powers to make MM believe he is on fire and incapacitates him. Red Tornado however finds Aquaman's location because of countless sea creatures circling his area. I just can't help but think of Aquaman as pathetic from the Superfriend's cartoons and Cartoon Network commericals. Neither can this guy it seems.

Batman #648:
Alfread and Bruce recieve a gift from Jason. It is some green hair...hmmm who has green hair? Red Hood convince Black Mask (What ever happened to Green Scarf?) to wipe out his underlings and Red Hood would stop harassing Black Mask. But he lied. The two tussle and Batman see the fight and arrives a moment too late to stop Black Mask putting a dagger into Red Hood. I'm sure he isn't dead...again.

All-Star Batman and Robin #3:
This series hasn't been as good as I hoped with Frank Miller writing it, but I do still like it alot. Lee just is an awesome artist who draws the most beautiful women. Speaking of that this issue is mainly about Black Canary who kicks some biker asses in this issue with a little bit of Batman and Dick Grayson in the Bat-mobile/Bat-Submarine and a little with Supes reading that Batman kidnapped Dick.

Ok got three comics to review for this week.

Teen Titans #30:

Brother Blood back from the dead. Everyone is coming back from the dead these days and a little insight into why. Looks like someone started it all and left the door open when they came back. It seemed like it inferred it was Superman when he "died" but I guess we'll find out later. Anyways, Brother Blood brought back some dead former titans for his own team.

A cool part of this issue was the Captain Carrot stuff in it. Goofy comic given the gritty treatment I think for a self-parody of the way comics have gone the last 10 years or so.

Action Comics #834:

The Queen of Fables is making superman go through a hallucination of a Kryptonian fable. It was OK I suppose, but not connected to anything Crisis wise. Not sure that is a good or bad thing.

JLA #123:

Art was bad, cover was embarassing, and the story was average. I would drop this if I didn't already know it was going on for 2 more issues then goes into hiatus when "One Year Later" hits. Obviously this is their new/crap talent filling in until June when it returns.

Up and Down Week at Work

There is plenty of bad news on the horizon for me with my work situation in the future, the main part being that by mid-year my job won't exist anymore. I'm looking for the right new job and confident I will find something better paying and beter managed.

Now the bad news this week was that my immediate supervisor found a new job. He actually accepted the job of which my previous supervisor here had and just retired from. It's bad news because he is a great boss and it is tough to lose him in this time of trouble and strife, but good news for him because he was in the same situation as me and he deserves that new job of less stress and worry.

Now the good news here was that another employee that was at risk found a new job. She gave her -1 day notice. She emailed in her resignation effective the day before. I think that is the definition of "Burning your bridges". Anyways this is good news only because she was the worst employee ever. She didn't know anything about IT, yet bragged she did, she barely did any work, and she would "work" extra hours on the weekend and take off during the week with her comp time, even though no one ever saw her here. She had the impending layoffs to save her plus the fact this is a state agency which is hard to get fired from, and she was not only female but black and a vet. (have to keep the quotas up)

Ideally we all would leave at the same time and to the same place and wash away all the stress there is currently here.

Hands down the best comedy show out there right now. It is written smart and I think extremely funny. Probably the only comedy show on TV right now I would tell someone they should watch for sure.

Actually this is a show I don't watch or have scheduled on DVR. Why? I am not sure. It is funny and I like Steve Carrol. Maybe because it is too much like being at work and as opposed to Dilbert it just reminds me that soon I will be back to work.

This show I have continued to watch for two reasons. One it is on after Lost. Two, I have DVR it records it. Saying that the show isn't bad, just slow moving. Until the last two episodes that is. Those were great and finally I am looking forward to new ones...but the survival of the show doesn't look too good. Who knows, the second half of the year may keep up the pace of the last two and it can turn into a big hit.

Some clever allusions to Comics such as AC (Aquaman who's real name is Arthur Curry) who wants Clark to join him in the Junior Lifeguard Association (JLA - Justice League of America), Tom Wopat guest starring and he goes through the open window of his car while telling Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) that the door is stuck and cannot be opened, and of Lex Luthor having a near death experience and seeing how his life could turn out if he did the right things(He has a son named Alexander. In the comics the alternate universe where a good Lex Luthor was had a son named Alexander)

Actually when this comes back from hiatus it will be on Tuesdays. This show is ok. I'll watch it but if it got cancelled...oh well I won't be crying about it.

Still very good. Still watch. Still like.

One other mention was Night Stalker on ABC. Not horribly bad but it is cancelled already. Biggest problem I had was that no matter how many freaky supernatural events happen to the main Female lead (granted this was like 6 shows but still) she never believed in the next show that there might be freaky supernatural things in the world.

So thats my list of stuff (not counting the other cable shows I had listed in the old one since they won't be back til next month.

Today will be the first day on commenting on the comics I buy. I don't get too many titles so there won't be too many to comment on every week as some other sites but you'll have to settle for what I get. Anyways this week:

Adventures of Superman #646:

Jumping into the near end of this storyline, Clark Kent stumbles across Mr. Mxyzptlk who can't remember his name and has holes in his memory and trouble with his magic.(most likely the result of the Spectre killing Shazam and destroying the Rock of Eternity in "Day of Vengeance") As Clark helps him remember so MM can go back home Clark sees some of MM's notes that talks about Ruin, a villian Superman has been trying to track down. Dragging along Mxy who helps with some timely magic to find Ruin's lair. Mxy saves supes from a Kryptonite arrow and tries to say his name backwards before he dies, but appears to be unsuccessful. Meanwhile Supes find Ruin who is Professor Hamilton...to be continued next issue.

A side plot in this issue is the cop who thinks Pete Ross, Clark's boyhood friend and former President, is Ruin and has tracked him down to this same lair. Ruin has dressed Pete up to look like him so she will kill Pete.

Batman #647:

For those of you not keeping track Jason Todd is back under the guise of Red Hood. Jason isn't too happy these days (Being beat with a crowbar by the joker back in the day then blown up may do that) Anyways Red Hood is fighting crime again in Gotham though he isn't shy about killing them off. Black Mask, the current crimelord in Gotham, wants him taken out, so he joined Luthor's society of villians to receive aid from some Meta-villians. He gets three C-class villians and they lure Red Hood into attacking them and seem to start to get the upper hand on Red Hood when Batman appears and working with Red Hood defeat the three villians. Red Hood kills one of them though and any good will is broken between them.

Superman 224:

The other Superman title I got this week has Lex Luthor (Green eyed luthor with the battle suit opposed to Blue eyed Luthor ex-president and current leader of DC's villians) flying over the arctic to battle his other greatest foe when an OMAC attacked and brought down the plane. Without his battlesuit Lex is powerless with only a gun and 4 bullets, but manages to take out the OMAC with three bullets by shooting and breaking off a ledge that crushes the OMAC and reverts back to human. The 4th bullet was used to end that man's life.

Superman meanwhile hears about the plane crash and that Lex is involved and flies off to take care of Lex himself but gets sidetracked by the new blackrock who Supergirl helped battle in the last issue. After getting beat he uses his head and puts her inside a lead-shielded room that depowers the blackrock.

Lois meanwhile is searching for the person who shot her. She knows Checkmate is involved and eventually tracks it down to Sasha Bordaux. She was one of the main characters in OMAC Project and ex-Batman lover. Now she is sort of a human/OMAC hybrid experiment. Sasha tells Lois she had no choice in shooting her and she plans to reform Checkmate to something good. Lois takes some pleasure that Sasha isn't human anymore and will suffer.

The best part of this issue is the comparison between Lex and Superman when faced with possible defeat. Lex feeds on his hatred while Superman feeds off of the people he loves. Both overcome adversity in this wat. Superman at the end seems ready to shake off the wimpiness and indecisiveness he has had over the last few years, so hope this contiues. (Batman in Infinite Crisis #1 told Superman the last time Superman inspired any of the heroes was when he died.)

Moveon.org made a spiffy little commercial about the US Occupation of Iraq and how the Republicans have no plan to end it. (They obviously don't understand that the military wants to win first). They aired it on CXNN and on Thankgsgiving day to pull on the heart strings as well. But the best part is....

"Cut to a shot of forlorn soldiers in Iraq with mess kits," the press release said. The announcer says 150,000 American men and women are "stuck in Iraq."

Problem is that they used footage of British soldiers....OOPS!

Editor's note: Have you ever wondered why increasing numbers of Americans are calling President Bush a liar and urging a near-term withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, even though this would undoubtedly result in a major victory for Islamic terrorism? David Kupelian reveals the surprising reasons in this special report.

I'm looking at a photograph of a beautiful young Christian girl who has just been beheaded by a gang of six rampaging, machete-wielding Muslim radicals.

Her bloody body is lying on an autopsy table. A few inches to the left of her torso lies her severed head, nestled in a bunched-up black plastic trash bag. Delicate features, lovely dark hair matted with blood, eyes closed, her face appears sad and almost serene, prompting one to reflect on the incomprehensible brutality and terror she must have experienced.

Two other teenage girls, both Christian, were also decapitated during the same Oct. 29 massacre on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The Muslim men, all dressed in black, savagely attacked the 16- to 19-year-old girls with machetes as they walked across a cocoa plantation on their way to the private Christian school they attended. Their heads were found some distance from the bodies, the head of one girl discarded mockingly in front of a Christian church.

Islamic attacks on Christians, including May's bombing in the nearby, predominantly Christian town of Tentena that killed 22 and injured over 30, are common in this area - with over 40 local attacks in the last two-and-a-half years. Analysts say Muslim militants are targeting central Sulawesi because they see it as a likely foundation for an Islamic state.

Global jihad

This scene, with all its attendant horror, is being duplicated all over the world, from Israel to India, from Russia to the Philippines, from Sudan to the Balkans, and right on into the heart of Europe with massive Muslim rioting in France and the terrorist train bombing in Spain, plus the subway bombings in London - and of course the 9-11 attacks in America that killed 3,000. Violent Islamic jihad, dormant for centuries, is once again on the move worldwide.

Islam has attempted global domination before. In past centuries it conquered not only Arabia, Persia, Syria and Egypt, but major parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, until it was ultimately defeated and lost its will to conquer - for a time, anyway.

And it's not just during Muhammad's era, or later medieval times, that militant Islam has savagely attacked neighboring cultures, either butchering "infidels" (non-Muslims) outright or converting them at the point of the sword. Jihad has always been a part of Islam.

For Americans, largely ignorant of world history, Islamic radicalism mysteriously appeared on their television screens for the first time on Sept. 11, 2001, and has dominated our national security concerns ever since. But for those more familiar with the major forces shaping world events, the violent spread of Islam is recognized as one of the most important geopolitical forces in the last 14 centuries, one that has touched billions of lives.

For instance, I personally lost dozens of family members - perhaps over 100 - in the genocide of the Christian Armenians by the Muslim Turks. I'll mention just one of those family members - my great grandfather, Steelianos Leondiades. A Protestant minister, in 1908 he was attending a conference of Armenian and Greek ministers in the major Turkish city of Adana. Here's how his daughter, my maternal grandmother Anna Paulson, recalled the terrible events that unfolded: "Some of the Turkish officers came to the conference room and told all these ministers - there were 70 of them, ministers and laymen and a few wives: 'If you embrace the Islamic religion you will all be saved. If you don't, you will all be killed.'"

Steelianos, my great grandfather, acting as a spokesman for the ministers group asked the Turks for 15 minutes so they could make their decision. During that time the ministers and their companions talked, read the Bible to each other and prayed. In the end, none of them would renounce their Christian faith and convert to Islam.

"And then," Anna recalled, "they were all killed.

"They were not even buried. They were all thrown down the ravine."

The only way we know any details of this massacre - one of many during that hellish period when 1.5 million Armenians were exterminated - is because one victim survived the ordeal. "One man woke up, he wasn't dead," my grandmother said. "He woke up and got up and said, 'Brethren, brethren, is there anybody alive here? I'm alive, come on, let's go out together.'" Had it not been for that survivor's account, no one would have known the circumstances of this modern-day martyrdom.

(By the way, details of the appalling decapitations of the three Christian girls in Indonesia also emerged thanks to a lone survivor - a fourth student who was also attacked and severely injured, but who survived to tell authorities about the attack.)

My great grandfather was a martyr, a real one. But today, we most often hear the word "martyr" being used to describe hypnotized Islamic jihadis who commit unspeakable mass atrocities against innocent people while dementedly chanting "Allahu Akhbar, Allahu Akhbar, Allahu Akhbar" to drown out what's left of their conscience.

That's not martyrdom. It's terrorism - and it's about time we realized what terrorism is all about.

How terrorism works

On one level, terrorism works by simply causing us so much pain, suffering and dread of future terror that we eventually weaken and give in to the terrorists' demands. But the ultimate goal of terrorism is to capture our hearts and minds - to convert us.

What? How can terrorizing us transform our attitudes in favor of the terrorists' viewpoint? Wouldn't we recoil in horror and, if anything, move farther away from sympathy toward the perpetrators? Not necessarily.

Remember, militant Muslims "convert" individuals to Islam by threat of death. Why shouldn't they try the same tactic on entire societies?

Stop and consider what happens when we're intimidated and frightened by terrorism, or even the threat of it. Wonder of wonders, some of us start to sympathize with our enemy.

There's a funny thing about appeasement. It's hard to give in to evil without first agreeing with that evil, at least a little. We have to allow our minds to be bent, our previous values and perceptions altered, even slightly; we somehow have to see the terrorists as not quite totally evil. "Yes, they may be angry and even murderous, but after all, don't they have legitimate grievances against us? Maybe we brought on this attack by our past actions. Maybe we're at fault. Maybe their cause is just. Maybe we're the real terrorists."

Does that sound like an exaggeration? Do you remember Cindy Sheehan, so lionized by America's "mainstream press" as the courageous public face of the antiwar movement? She referred to Islamic terrorists flocking to Iraq to kill American soldiers as "freedom fighters." Meanwhile she calls the president of the United States a "lying bastard," a "jerk," an "evil maniac," a "gangster," a "war criminal," a "murderous thug" and - of course - a "terrorist."

To become an appeaser, you have to sympathize with the enemy, either overtly like Sheehan, or secretly. How else can you look at yourself in the mirror and justify giving in to evil?

The question is, how do we come to side with those who are intent on destroying us?

Sympathy for the devil

On Aug. 23, 1973, a submachine-gun-toting escaped convict named Jan-Erik Olsson attempted to rob a bank in Stockholm, Sweden, and in the process took four hostages.

Incredibly, over the course of their five-and-a-half day captivity, the hostages developed a strong bond with Olsson and another ex-con who joined him - so much so that they came to sympathize with and support the criminals holding them captive at gunpoint, while fearing and disparaging the police who sought to free them. Some of the captives later testified on behalf of, or raised money for, the legal defense of their captors.

This phenomenon of captives developing an emotional bond with their captors, dubbed the "Stockholm Syndrome" after the bank hostage case, has been observed in many hostage situations over the years, and has also shed light on other seemingly inexplicable behaviors, such as battered wives who identify with and defend horribly abusive husbands.

Characteristics of the Stockholm Syndrome include:

1. The captives start to identify with their captors, at first as a means of survival, calculating that the captor won't hurt them if they are cooperative and supportive.

2. The captives realize a rescue attempt is dangerous and could result in their being hurt or even killed, and so they come to fear and oppose efforts to rescue them.

3. Longer-term captivity fosters an emotional attachment to the captor, as the victims learn of the captor's problems and grievances, as well as his hopes and aspirations. In some cases, the captives come to identify with and believe in the justness of the captor's "cause."

Is it possible that the Stockholm Syndrome - where victims are so intimidated and fearful that they end up sympathizing with and defending those threatening their lives, and disparaging those brave souls trying to save them - might help explain some of what has happened worldwide in response to the murderous outrages of radical Islam?

Could it be that many people are so intimidated by radical Islam, so fearful of being victims themselves, that their fear is transformed unconsciously into a strange sympathy and support for the terrorists, in an attempt to placate them?

Could this be a factor in the absurd political correctness we see in America and Europe with regard to Islam?

Why is it that since 9-11, increasing numbers of students on American college campuses are extolling the "Palestinian cause" and condemning Israel as a terrorist state, with some schools even hosting thinly disguised jihad recruitment rallies by radical Islamic groups?
Why is it that Muslims can riot day after day in and around Paris, burn over a thousand cars, ransack businesses and schools, rampage through 300 towns shooting at police and firemen - and the international press barely mentions that the rioters are Muslims?
Why is it that every time a terror incident occurs in the U.S. - such as the Beltway snipers that terrorized the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area for weeks - the government and press bend over backwards to downplay any possible Islamic jihad connection? (The key Beltway sniper had converted to Islam, changed his name to "Muhammad" and had known sympathies for Islamic terrorists.)
Why do the government and news media treat the Council for American-Islamic Relations, CAIR, as a legitimate civil rights organization when it has been identified by two former FBI counterterrorism chiefs as a "front group" for Hamas, and several of its leaders have been convicted on federal terrorism charges since 9-11?
If you consider Americans' understandable fear of radical Muslims, and add to that fear our culture's knee-jerk multicultural dread of being perceived as "racist," you can start to understand today's bizarre deference to Islam in the West.

'Psychology of defeat'

Somehow, the West has lost its courage and has been intimidated by radical Islam into trying to appease it. It's easy for this to happen - even in a battle-hardened nation like Israel.

Once the Jewish state set the standard for the entire world in how to deal with terrorism. But in recent years Israel's leadership, along with a considerable segment of public opinion, have been seduced into pursuing appeasement as the road to peace.

Understandably, Israelis are tired and worn down after more than 50 years of fighting and dying just to defend their right to exist. But the problem is, the more Israel tries to display good will and make concessions for peace with the surrounding Arab states, the more terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians increase. Shouldn't the opposite occur? Wouldn't you think the more land giveaways and other concessions the Israelis make, the closer they would get to peace? No, the result is more terror and more pressure for more concessions.

Look at this simple and familiar syndrome on a personal level: If you cower before a bully in an attempt to placate him, all you accomplish is to make him more confident, more demanding, more contemptuous of you - in other words, your weakness literally transforms him into an even bigger and more dangerous bully.

Israel has made a string of major concessions - the most recent being the unprecedented, unilateral gift of Gaza to the Palestinians. Are the Palestinians happy as a result? Are they grateful to Israel? No, Gaza is becoming a Mecca for terrorists, a prime Middle East staging area for ever more terror attacks. Hamas and other terror groups believe they are seeing the fruits of their murderous attacks on Israelis - and are encouraged now to engage in more terrorism until they have "liberated" all of Israel, which they call "Palestine."

Appeasement always encourages violence. If more violence is not immediately forthcoming in response to appeasement, it's only a strategic delay. Israel should have learned this lesson from hard experience, such as when it made its disastrous, unilateral withdrawal from southern Lebanon, which resulted in widespread death among Lebanese Christians and the emboldening of the Hezbollah terror army.

The simple fact is, just as with Communists and Nazis, Islamo-fascists regard goodwill gestures and concessions as nothing more than contemptible weakness and an irresistible invitation to take advantage. Hitler, shortly after the appeasing Chamberlain arrived home proudly displaying his worthless peace treaty, turned around and attacked Britain. In the same way, Islamic militants consider it just good strategy to lie and break treaties.

It seems Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has somehow forgotten what he wrote in his autobiography, "Warrior." Reflecting on his years as a daring soldier fighting for his nation's survival, Sharon wrote that, in dealing with Israel's Arab attackers, he "came to view the objective not simply as retaliation, or even deterrence in the usual sense. It was to create in the Arabs a psychology of defeat, to beat them every time and to beat them so decisively that they would develop the conviction they could never win."

Now we're getting somewhere.

Terrorism is intimidation. The terrorists' end-game is to so frighten us that we not only cower in fear, but are converted - that is, our fear actually causes a change in our attitudes and beliefs regarding the terrorists and their cause.

The antidote to this intimidation factor is self-evident: Terrorists (intimidators) must be super-intimidated into submission. Sorry, but it's the only language they speak. Anything else besides overwhelming, paralyzing, courage-destroying strength is perceived by them as weakness.

For example: In 1986, after America had suffered many casualties from a long string of terror activities fomented by Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi, President Reagan bombed Libya. Called Operation El Dorado Canyon, the U.S. raids targeted specific sites, including Qaddafi's house, and killed 60 people, including Qaddafi's adopted four-year-old daughter.

As a result, most historians agree, Libya basically abandoned terrorism, with the notable exception of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, for which Libya formally accepted responsibility in 2003, paying each victim's family $8 million.

OK, you might well say, we can agree you have to crush terrorism so badly it can't get up. But what about efforts to influence the hearts and minds of the larger Muslim world - to nudge them toward moderation and away from radicalism and violence? Of course, such efforts are essential to prevailing long-term in the current clash of civilizations, a war that rages not just between Islam and the West, but between radical Islam and that religion's more moderate, modern elements. The great majority of Muslims worldwide, even those somewhat sympathetic to militant Islam, might well be susceptible to moving toward a more moderate worldview.

But whatever educational outreach the West might employ to the Muslim world to champion the joys of freedom and self-determination, of tolerance and women's rights and so on - and for that matter, whatever outreach moderate Muslims make to their Islamic brothers and sisters - they're all useless without the accompanying demoralization and destruction of the violent jihad movement.

Let's learn a lesson from America's "Greatest Generation."

One of the most controversial actions in U.S. military history was dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to break the will of the maniacal Japanese war effort. Now, I know there are persuasive arguments both for and against America having used the atomic bomb in this way. But whether or not you agree, in retrospect, with the bombings of those two Japanese cities, what is undeniable is that doing so accomplished more than end the war with Japan. It broke Japan. It confronted the "evil spirit" that had possessed that nation - with its crazed kamikaze suicide pilots and its emperor who was regarded as a god - and it violently exorcized it. Having neutralized the evil that had captivated Japan, America became that nation's friend and helped massively reconstruct it, ultimately turning Japan into the civilized, successful, First World economic power it is today.

For that matter, after the Allies annihilated Hitler's war machine and along with it the German will and capacity to attack its neighbors, the U.S. also helped a newly sober Germany to become a great Western power. Our enemies, Japan and Germany, became our friends.

Once again, I am not saying "Nuke Mecca" or anything of the sort. I am saying what Arial Sharon said years ago: We must create in the enemy "a psychology of defeat, to beat them every time and to beat them so decisively that they would develop the conviction they could never win."

Hearts and minds

Of course, I am not preaching this sermon to America's military, which knows the truth of what I am saying here far better than I do. But, to America's citizens and political leadership, I'm saying the biggest danger to this nation in the global war against radical Islam is the specter of appeasement - in all its forms.

Remember, winning any war is not just about who has the greater number of soldiers and more advanced weapons. If it were, how could we explain America losing a war to North Vietnam? Although we won virtually every battle, we lost that war - at home.

Recently we've seen a burgeoning antiwar movement, reminiscent of that during the 1960s Vietnam era. Back then, widespread opposition to the Vietnam War was fueled by overtly leftist and even communist groups, whose efforts were multiplied by the news media, which opposed the war. The same phenomenon is happening today, including the far left and communist groups at the forefront. And the same terrible outcome is possible, if America loses its courage in this war. Only this time it would be much worse: No one was worrying about the North Vietnamese slipping across America's borders to detonate nuclear bombs or launch a biological weapons terror attack. But with our current enemy, that is this nation's No.1 concern.

Make no mistake, the leaders and organizers of current antiwar demonstrations, like the giant one in Washington, D.C., in September, are groups openly aligned with terrorist and communist regimes - groups like ANSWER, which the Washington Post described as "one of the main antiwar groups coordinating" the rally in the nation's capital. The Post didn't see fit to mention that ANSWER ("Act Now to Stop War and End Racism") is just a front group for the ultra-leftist Workers World Party, which enthusiastically supports North Korea and other dangerous, wacko regimes, and even worse - supports the "Iraqi resistance" which is killing American troops in Iraq.

Like Vietnam, the Iraq War is controversial. There are valid, honest and compelling arguments both for and against this war - that is, over whether we should have taken the terror war to that location in the first place.

However, there are few or no compelling arguments for abandoning the fight now that we are there. Virtually everyone, except the most radical appeaser, recognizes it would be disastrous to "cut and run," which would widely be perceived as a monumental victory for terrorism. It would undoubtedly fuel a new and much larger round of radical jihad recruiting and the violence that inevitably follows.

Fifteen years from now, the Iraq War may be considered to have been a mistake. Or it may be regarded by historians to have been strategically brilliant and visionary to have planted and nurtured a relatively free, democratic country right in the heart of the Arab-Muslim Middle East, in between "axis of evil" countries Iran and Syria. Time will tell.

But what is indisputable is that Islamic radicalism is very, very real, and is intent on 1) dominating the entire Middle East, 2) wiping Israel off the map, and later, 3) fulfilling what it sees as its mission of bringing the entire world into a state of submission to the religion of Muhammad. It's already happening in Europe.

This global jihad can succeed only if we lose the battle for hearts and minds - our own. Consider well the words attributed to Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's chief lieutenant, in his recent July 9 letter (captured by U.S. troops) to al-Qaida's top leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Despite claims by al-Qaida that it's a forgery, the U.S. government says it "has the highest confidence in the letter's authenticity."

"... I say to you that we are in a battle," Bin Laden's No. 2 man says to his Iraqi commander, "and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media. And that we are in a media battle in a race for the hearts and minds of our Umma ["Umma" means all Muslims worldwide]. And that however far our capabilities reach, they will never be equal to one-thousandth of the capabilities of the kingdom of Satan that is waging war on us."

In other words, although their military capabilities "will never be equal to one-thousandth of the capabilities" of America, they can still win. How?

During the 1960s, the antiwar movement, driven by profoundly anti-American groups - whose efforts were legitimized and multiplied by the news media - ultimately caused America to lose its courage and lose the war. What do you think? Is the same thing happening now? And isn't that exactly what our Islamo-fascist enemies would love most?

Another study has cast doubt on the global warming theory.

Recognizing that the Earth’s climate has been changing since the pre-industrial era, physicist A. Kilcik and his colleagues set out to determine if there is a link between variations in solar activity and changes in the earth’s temperatures, John McCaslin reports in the Washington Times’ Inside the Beltway column.

They compared surface air temperature variations in the U.S. and Japan from 1900 to 1995.

"Our results indicate marked influence of solar-activity variations on the earth’s climate,” the researchers reported in the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics.

Writes McCaslin: "Which might help explain other historic climate changes, from the ‘Medieval Warm Period’ from the 12th century through the 14th century, to the ‘Little Ice Age’ from the latter half of the 17th century into the early 18th century.
"President Bush may have been correct not to rush his signature onto the Kyoto Protocol treaty on climate change.”

There's obviously no limit to the depths of depravity the U.S. military will sink in order to kill the enemy while saving their own skins. According to Australian newspapers, sadistic U.S. soldiers were spotted burning the bodies of Taliban freedom fighters in a twisted ploy to lure their comrades out of hiding.

It's all one big joke to the right-wing chickenhawks, but to the Muslim people the mutilation of the dead is considered a vile form of desecration fit only for civilian contractors and Jews. In accordance with Islamic law, the deceased must be ritually bathed and buried facing Mecca, or they will be reincarnated as 7-ll clerks with hairy foreheads and bad dispositions.

After the infamous genital-mocking incidents at Abu Ghraib prison, and the rampant Quran-mishandling atrocities at Gitmo, one would think that the U.S. military would be a little more careful not to offend radical muslim clerics and Democrat senators. While human decency requires that we mock and ridicule barbaric Christian traditions like monogamy and pre-marital abstinence, Islam is a rich tapestry of religious customs that must be respected and preserved. It's not too much to ask that troops take a little time out from their oh-so-busy schedule to sponge-bathe the bodies of those they've viciously slaughtered, bury them facing Mecca, and then dance around the sacred yak while a licensed union imam screeches like a wounded hyena through a ceremonial bullhorn. If soldiers would simply educate themselves about the Religion of Peace, then perhaps they'll come to respect other Muslim traditions as well - such as flying planes into buildings and sawing the heads off infidels.
