Roll the Dice

I have been playing D&D a long time. It has had some bad press in its time, but I find it a fun time that allows me time with my friends.

As I said last week it all started in 1983 getting the Basic Set. I soon saved up whatever money I had and bought some more. Eventually my friend's joined in and we had a regular thing. Life was good.Throughout high school we played every chance we got.

Then college came about and the times we could play was virtually non existant, the occasional chance came around but was rare.. We stumbled upon a substitute, Magic the Gathering. This was fine as we didn't have alot of time and not everyone was in town or available to play D&D.

Then in early 1999 the three of us and another friend from high school got together for some drinks and had a great time. It had been a long time since this had last happened and we decided we needed to do it on a more consistant basis. So we decided on a monthly or so gathering where we could drink, eat, reminisce, and play D&D. We have made it 6+ years so far and I hope it keeps going. D&D is the excuse while the friendships are the reason.

I also currently play in a Wednesday and Sunday game with different friends. I started those regular games in 2002 by almost pure luck. One of my gamer friends had a brother-in-law that played everyweek at a store in town. Great! I instantly clicked with that group and have made some great friendships.

So what started out as a curiosity and probably drove my mother nuts (actually maybe not since we were at one of our house all time and not getting in trouble) has turned into an important stress reliever and gathering times with my friends. (and don't forget the beer!)
