Blast From The Past

No not this!

Springboob and I were talking this morning about various things on the ride into work this morning and it drifted towards Dancing with the Stars and one of the dancers, Joey Lawrence. And after saying his name I went "Woah!", a catch phrase from his show on Blossom. Springboob said he was talking with his wife about it and did the same thing.

Later in the morning The Donald found out why there was an on/off switch on the paper puncher thing (for a middle hole), and said to me, "Now you know", which I immediately said back to him "And knowing is half the battle!", from the end of every G.I. Joe cartoon episode.

So that made me start to think about other things associated with people or shows that I or other people may still say about them. Another example is that I still call Mark Wahlberg "Marky Mark".

Anyone else have any?

This is English, Right?

So I got this Text message today on my phone:
get off that bull shit call me im not gone call no more i dont sweat no nigger shits not sweat jump down wit me miss ma holla

So I thought it was my friend, so I called the number back and got voicemail and left a goofy message back. Then a woman calls me back, who I could barely understand (not surprising by the text message), and basically she told me she didn't send a text message.

So can anyone translate that for me?

That's another thing that comes to mind with the recent immigration issue. People have mentioned getting the immigrants to learn English - I would be even more thrilled if the people that were born and raised in this country could speak understandable English. (grrr)

Here is a question that came up last week at Little Wars. Answer in comment section.

David Bowie and Mick Jagger? Dancing in the Streets or Dancing in the sheets?

They've publically admitted to having sex with eachother if that's what you're implying.

"Publicly admitted?" OK, then my guess is for "sheets."

Beware the Ides of March!

One day late in writing this, but yesterday was so crappy that these words echoed in my head all day. With one major stress out item in "both" of my jobs and then waking up to a realization that our bathroom project may be impacted in a negative way I was stressing out some. Rob's stress pictures were swimming all over the place!

But as the day wore on one of the major issues at work was resolved and the home issue wasn't as bad as it appeared so things got better.

Now all I have left to stress about is the issue at this half of my job and the craptastic weather.

Up and Down Week at Work

There is plenty of bad news on the horizon for me with my work situation in the future, the main part being that by mid-year my job won't exist anymore. I'm looking for the right new job and confident I will find something better paying and beter managed.

Now the bad news this week was that my immediate supervisor found a new job. He actually accepted the job of which my previous supervisor here had and just retired from. It's bad news because he is a great boss and it is tough to lose him in this time of trouble and strife, but good news for him because he was in the same situation as me and he deserves that new job of less stress and worry.

Now the good news here was that another employee that was at risk found a new job. She gave her -1 day notice. She emailed in her resignation effective the day before. I think that is the definition of "Burning your bridges". Anyways this is good news only because she was the worst employee ever. She didn't know anything about IT, yet bragged she did, she barely did any work, and she would "work" extra hours on the weekend and take off during the week with her comp time, even though no one ever saw her here. She had the impending layoffs to save her plus the fact this is a state agency which is hard to get fired from, and she was not only female but black and a vet. (have to keep the quotas up)

Ideally we all would leave at the same time and to the same place and wash away all the stress there is currently here.

People are so used to bad smells in NY City, when things smell good people freak out!

Maybe someone made the World's largest pancake nearby?

Want to Play Doctor?

OK, who really falls for this?
SEATTLE (Reuters) - An Oregon woman whose doctor convinced her that he could cure her lower back pain by having sex with her is suing him and his medical clinic for $4 million, according to legal documents obtained on Monday.

The doctor, Randall Smith, who was 50 at the time, was stripped of his license and sent to jail for 60 days last year for charging the state's Oregon Health Plan $5,000 for his 45-minute "treatments" involving the woman.

"Dr. Smith's medical treatment included intercourse in which he told plaintiff was needed to help alleviate plaintiff's lower back and lower extremity pain," the former patient said in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, which charges battery, negligence and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, was filed on Friday in Multnomah County court.

"We never comment on lawsuits," said a spokesman for the Adventist Medical Group clinic in Gresham, Oregon where Smith worked. Smith could not be located for comment.

Though he pleaded guilty to submitting false health care claims, a felony, Smith maintained the sex with the 47-year-old woman was consensual.

No really! I want know!

Get Your Ass to Mars

Memory is such a weird and fickle thing at times. There are countless events and memories that won't be remembered until something happens that triggers it. This morning it happened to me on the elevator once I got to work. I pushed the button for my floor as the other guy pushed his. As the doors close he asks me laughing, "Hey do you know how many centimeters are to an inch?". I replied with no hesitation, "Yep. 2.54 exactly" (I know one person who reads this knows it as well). The exactly part is probably why I remember it from High School. Or when something is a darker shade of purple, I start the intro to Smoke on the Water.

Same as why whenever I see a French person or think about saying something in French it will always be, "Le poisson dit 'Glu Glu'".

Why I love Wednesdays - Part 2

Last Wednesday I talked about my love of comics and the thrill I get when I know I can go to my local comic book store and grab the latest installments. Today I will talk about my other reason for enjoying my Wednesdays....D&D.

I have been playing D&D since 1983 when I received the Basic D&D set as a present. (Enter the gaping hole...) Next Challenge was to find some people to play it with. Luckily I found two such individuals. (still friends and still gaming)

Today I play every Wednesday (and occasional Saturday or Sunday) with a new group of friends I have known going on three years now. I spent the 90's mostly not playing D&D because I didn't know anyone in the area I could game with.

D&D is much more than rolling dice, it's a chance to be the hero in a story (if you are playing a character), the chance to be an author of the story (If you are running the game), and a chance to spend time with friends when the daily/weekly grind of normal life would otherwise pass us by.

Why I love Wednesday

Currently in my life right now there are two major reasons why I look forward to Wednesdays, Comic book day and D&D night at Misty. (A third will be Lost once the new season starts up again)

So today I am gonna talk about comics, mainly about Superheroes. Ever since I was a small kid I loved comics. I am not sure if it was because of the big bundle my brother had (which I still have) or because of the cheesy Batman TV series I would watch when going over to my Grandmother's house. She had cable. Cable was cool. Back then I would get Batman and Spiderman whenever I could afford 25 cents at the grocery store. I wish they were still that price! We are talking early 80's comics before the Crisis. Superheroes always did the right thing and the bumbling villains always lost in the end. As a kid that was great! Now comics have changed.

Somewhere after the Crisis, probably about mid 90's Comics grew up or at the least target audience did. The Anti-hero grew in fame this decade with Spawn, Venom and Hellboy to name a couple. I didn't get many comics in that time period as I was now of age and spent what money I had on more important grown up things, like Beer! But this is the era where things got a little more mature, stories got a little more sophisticated.

Fast Forward to today and the maturing of comics has gone even farther to the point where I am not sure I would want my (future) child to even read them until a much older age. I like some of the cartoons on the TV now depicting superheroes (Justice League and Teen Titans are both pretty good and so was Batman Animated Series) but the comics have really started to become "gritty".

I guess I matured with the comics as I love the stories with flawed heroes, or heroes that make mistakes, or being outwitted by the villains sometimes. DC Comics is putting out some great stories right now that is hopefully a sign to come in future years. It looks like I made a good choice in when to return to buying regular comics. They have a vision where the DC Universe is going to head starting almost 2 years ago and stretching for more than a year ahead from now. People can complain that they don't like the direction comics is heading in, or complain that a certain character acts different than they did in the 80's, but I respect them for have a grand planned out purpose and getting all the writers and drawers to agree on it.

They have hooked me on the stories right now. Wednesday is here, but I have to wait until after noon before the comic book store opens!

Starting out

Welcome everyone (nobody) to Hell Come From Frogtown. This blog is for me to type stuff in whenever I want about whatever I want. Topics could range on what I am doing today, what is pissing me off currently, what TV shows I am watching, what comics are entertaining me, or random letters strewn together. Either way should be fun.

Anyways today I am in a bad mood. Probably because I got my "At-Risk" notice yesterday and my job is going away at some point in the next 1 to 11 months. I have known this to be the case for awhile and I have been planning on getting a new job but I am still irritated by it. At one point this was such a great job allowing me to finally enjoy a job after years of crap jobs Now I consider it a crap job. A well paying crap job, but a crap job none-the-less.So sitting here at work is a low level anger storm brewing about nothing in particular. That means that I cannot focus on anything productive, so I started a blog. Read into that statement what you will.

Updates will be coming again at some point, hopefully daily but probably not.

You've been through this before....not with your current job...well sort of, but....well, you remember. Anyway, try to get out of your funk. Things are always changing...you know that. Without change, think of how boring life would be. Maybe this is the push that you've needed to make a change on your own. Get out there now because it is easier to get a job when you are employed. In my experience, it is more difficult if you are unemployed. I know there have been a lot of changes lately, but embrace them as positives and don't let them stress you out. Considering this is a spot for you to vent, I hope that I didn't intrude. Only wanted to try to make you feel better. Hope it worked.
